Heavily engaged mission music from the mysterious sect of Niggas With Guitars, coming correct with a stunningly evocative debut vinyl for Digitalis. In the vein of Dylan Ettinger's 'New Age Outlaws' or Leyland Kirby's muddled memories, 'Ethnic Frenzy' is a vivid internal soundtrack for hypnagogic dreamers, warping the memes of Vangelis or Carpenter in much the same way Pat Maher's DJ YoYo Dieting did to DJ Screw or Indignant Senility to Wagner. Cruising in to the A-side we're slowly immersed in smoked-out and sludgy choral drones punctuated with fractured gasps of drum machine reminding of the 1st Chasing Voices 12", before we reach the bottom and everything becomes blissed out and stargazing with a soulful slopped and screwed ending. The second side is more unresolved, amping the drama with a weirdly affecting orchestral synth score before tipping over the edge into paranoid, muffled voices while clammy Italian horror hooks give a dank atmosphere and we're dumped from the boot to blunted back alley 808s. Check the samples for yourself, but we should stress that spending a bit of time with this record is a memorable experience.

New London-based label featuring an underground hit in London's house scene in 2010, quickly picked up by the major players in UK underground music. Tarantula is an unusually mature track from such a young producer and its smooth African percussion and lush synths mark it head and shoulders above the identi-kit house tracks currently swamping London’s underground. For the flip, Eglo Records’ Funkineven picks up remix duties and turns out a perfect example of his recent acidic excursions with a squelching acid bassline perforated by a slick 808 drum set that doubles up on the original’s dancefloor pressure. Meanwhile, Ossie shows further dexterity on Creepy Crawlies as he puts his tribal percussive elements into overdrive, the track is possessed by a twisted electro-shamanistic groove.

Workshop's Lowtec licks up two deeply dipped grooves to follow recent Nonplus heat from Actress, Boddika, and Kassem Mosse. He's an unexpected name to crop up on this label for sure, but the clip of his grooves makes total sense considering the label's current agenda. A-side features burnished, beatdown-vibing chords and samples alloyed to a crumpled 4/4 with a proper Berlin backroom meets smoky Detroit basement feel. Flip it for the killer, grumbling groove of 'Looser', maintaining a deadly tension with hovering, Shake-style string edits and a welting 4/4 jack guaranteed to shake the walls wherever it's deployed.

Classy Dub House grooves from Session View for Enypnion. Both the original 'Orange' and the 'Pressure Mix' are carved very much in the image of dub techno godfathers, Basic Channel, from the pneumatic hi-hats to aqua-swung bass and measured matrix of FX. The title tracks is more idiosyncratic, unusually pulling up the kick drum anchor a quarter through the track and leaving us in cold outer dub space with only a sharp hi-hat and absorbing atmospheres for the duration.

"Gedankenexperiment" (german for 'thought experiment') is a one-time project by Beta Evers and Heinrich Mueller.Both have already worked together (with 2 others) for the project "Zwischenwelt"; their album on Rephlex is due beginning of 2011.

For "Gedankenexperiment" Evers and Mueller designed a hypothetical situation and followed the structure of a typcial experiment to explore its consequences.

A two tracker of freshness from Boxcutter, aka Barry Lynn, a questing producer who was taking stylistic chances and constantly mutating his dubstep-based music, long before anyone thought it was time to start discussing 'post-dubstep'. This single precedes his new album "The Dissolve", due out in April, and pretty much throws all previous Boxcutter records, sounds and styles out the window. "Allele" builds from echoey drums into a tight juke-influenced drum pattern with lots of tight edits, before adding a vocal that hints at old school hardcore, wavering chords and drops, before the whole thing finally resolves into a restrained but ravey breakbeat. "Other People" simply but effectively mixes hazy, live sounding 2-step drums with a lush bitter-sweet melody reminiscent of the Drexciya offshoot TheOtherPeoplePlace, which glides subtly through a background of shimmering effects and delays.
